Donate to AWI

Animal Welfare Institute

"Since 1951, has been dedicated to reducing animal suffering caused by people. We seek better treatment of animals everywhere— in the laboratory, on the farm, in commerce, at home, and in the wild."

What does it do?
Animal Welfare Institute work to protect and prevent cruel treatment of animals.  AWI sets high welfare standards for animals raised for food; by labeling products from compliant family farms, this program provides consumers with humanely produced eggs, meat and dairy products. It has a variety of programs that you can check out on their website to see what you can do to help.

Why is it important to me?
AWI is important to me because I believe that animals should be treated well no matter what their purpose. I want to help them have live better lives and be treated fairly and the AWI can help you do that. It uses 91% of their funds on program expenses.

Donate to the Rainforest Trust

Rainforest Trust

Rainforest Trust has been around for 30 years helping protect acres of rainforest in order to help endangered species and indigenous communities.

What does it do?

Rainforest Trust uses land acquisition in order to purchase land and threats to the rainforest. They work with governments and communities in order to create national parks and public reserves.

Why is it important to me?

The cause that the Rainforest Trust fights for is really important to me. I care about my planet and I want it to survive. I want not just me generation, but other following generations to be able to breathe clean air and fight climate change, but we have to help Earth's forests and reduce pollution in order to do that. I like the Rainforest Trust because they use 100% of your donation for Conservation which means that whatever you donate will help make a difference and help your planet.

Donate to HSSC

Humane Society of Sarasota County

"HSSC is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. national humane organization. HSSC is the only animal welfare organization in Sarasota to earn the coveted 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator, America’s premier independent charity evaluator."

HSSC receives no federal funding or funding from national humane organizations, they get their money from the donations from people, other organizations, and other corporations.

What does it do?

HSSC helps shelter pets and find them good homes. It provides a multitude of programs and services such as: pet adoption, pet therapy, humane education, and animal clinics.

Why is it important to me?

Most shelters will take in any animal you bring in but if there is no more space for them or if they haven't been adopted for a certain amount of time, the shelter will euthanize them. No kill shelters seem more ethical to me as I want animals who don't have homes to find homes without having to face a deadline if they aren't adopted. HSSC gets their funds from donations and they use as much as they can to help their cause. This is important to me because I care about treating animals in a humane manner, I don't want to see animals get euthanized just because they took to long to get adopted or because there wasn't enough space.

Donate to the Trevor Project

       ABOUT THE TREVOR PROJECT

"Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25."
What does it do?
The TREVOR Project is a non-profit organization that focuses on suicide prevention among young LGBTQ youth. "The Trevor Project offers a suite of crisis intervention and suicide prevention programs, including TrevorLifeline, TrevorText, and TrevorChat as well as a peer-to-peer social network support for LGBTQ young people under the age of 25, TrevorSpace. Trevor also offers an education program with resources for youth-serving adults and organizations, a legislative advocacy department fighting for pro-LGBTQ legislation and against anti-LGBTQ rhetoric/policy positions, and conducts research to discover the most effective means to help young LGBTQ people in crisis and end suicide."
Why is it important to me?
My community is full of a diverse array of people. Some people I care about are apart of the LGBTQ community and it affects me directly when their rights aren't respected or they lack certain rights that everyone else has. This has not only an impact on me and the people I know, but the people around us too. The TREVOR project is important to me because everyone should be able to live in their homes without being kicked out by their family members or shunned from a job because of their identity and this project people help others save lives and make changes with just a small action.
Why should you donate?
The TREVOR project is quick and easy to donate to and it saves lives. It is very dedicated to helping the LGBTQ community and they spend 81% of its expenses on charitable programs and the remaining 19% on overhead. It is very transparent and accountable.

Donate to RAICES

The Refugee and Immigrant Center for Educational and Legal Services

RAICES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees.

What does it do?

RAICES defends the rights of immigrants and refugees, empower individuals, families and communities, and advocate for liberty and justice. It strives to help reform society into a compassionate society where all people have the right to migrate and human rights are guaranteed.

Why is it important to me?

RAICES is an organization that I feel hits close to home because I live in Texas and here we see a lot of people migrating from Mexico and other places around the world. I hear a lot of discussion on the news and among my peers about families being separated and the lack of rights for immigrants and refugees. I'm hoping that spreading the word a little through this blog might help bring some attention to a cause that's close to me and my community.
